The wife of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has joined the fundraising campaign aimed at putting up a new Mother and Baby Unit for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

Lady Julia Osei-Tutu said she was touched by Joy News' documentary ‘Next to die’ which captured harrowing challenges mothers and their newborns face at the Hospital.

In an interview with Joy News four days to another fundraising event scheduled at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, she said the needless death of mothers and babies at KATH has to end.

“I do not believe there can be any heart which has not been or will not be touched by the cries of the dying babies and their mothers [at KATH],” she said.

The Sunday fundraising towards the construction of a new Mother and Baby Unit for KATH is a follow-up to an earlier one held in Accra.

The May 4, 2017 event had some major companies contributing towards the raising of an initial sum of GHS10 million for the project.
