Education Minister meets Regional Directors of Education
Accra, May 12, GNA - Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Minister of Education and Sports, on Thursday said plans were far advanced to decentralise the education sector in order to position it to develop its full capacity to meet the challenges of the new educational reforms. The Minister, therefore, called for effective collaboration and coordination between the Ministry and Regional and District Education Directors to ensure that the vision became a reality.
The Minister, who was addressing Regional Directors of Education in Accra, said the Ministry would also collaborate with the Ministry of Communications to realise its objectives of improving infrastructure at both the regional and district levels.
"We are concerned about the poor state of communication equipment in the offices and provision is being made to replace all old computers to ensure effective communication," he said. On the supply of teachers to the regions and districts, Mr Osafo-Maafo urged the Regional Directors to plan their teacher demand and supply needs so as to resolve the perennial problems of teacher supply and postings.
The Minister further charged the Regional Directors to intensify their supervisory role in the various educational institutions under their jurisdiction in order to know the real needs of these institutions.
"This will enable you to make the needed teacher requirements for these institutions," he said.
He said the Ministry was planning a comprehensive capacity building programme, in collaboration with institutions like Ghana Institute Management Public Administration (GIMPA) to provide relevant training for Regional Directors to be able to operate under the new education policy reforms.
