7 Victims Of Sunday Afternoon's Tatale Robbery Attack Identified

Deceased persons of Sunday’s afternoon robbery attack at Tatale in the Tatale-Sanguli District of the Northern region have been identified according to the District Police Commander, Eric Akaboah.

The seven who died in a gun battle include; the National Democratic Congress chairman for Nonyado only identified as Papa and one Asando, were among three residents of Nonyado who got injured.

Police also revealed that four of the robbers in the ensuing exchanges were killed and their bodies have been deposited at a health facility in the area as security patrols have been stepped up to apprehend the other four.

According to the police, the armed robbers numbering about 8 on motorbikes emerged from the Togo end of the border and held market women hostage at a spot noted for currency exchange in view of the fact that Sunday May 21, 2017 was a market day in the area.

They were reported to have advanced in their bid to rob other road users but luck eluded them when the police were notified and rushed in well armed.

The robbers reportedly fired gunshots sporadically as they progressed to scare their victims but a police patrol team that had arrived in the niche of time, came to the rescue of the victims and returned fire while trying to close up on them.

In the heated gunfire exchanges that saw the passengers of Tatale bound bus caught in the cross-fire, some persons including the three residents sustained a gunshot wounds leading to their death while the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Yendi government hospital.

Police in the area believe the escape suspects could be hiding in the bushes or fled into neighbouring Togo because the area shares border with Ghana.
