'Pay Back GHC2,500 Bribes Or Else'....Angry Supporters Of Failed DCE Warn Assembly Members

Enraged supporters of failed District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the West Mamprusi District of the Northern region Saaka Sayuti, have vowed to deal ruthlessly with individual assembly members for failing to confirm him the third time.

The nominee on Monday polled 22 votes as against 20 dissenting failing for the third successive time to make the mandatory two-thirds majority as required by the Local Government Act to be confirmed.

As a result, his supporters who went on rampage destroying property of the assembly and holding some assembly members hostage at the district assembly offices have promised to calm down only if the monies the assembly members received as bribes are returned.

“We are not asking for anything much…they should return the GH¢2,500 they individually received with the promise of endorsing the candidate only to disappoint him. We are not taking any excuses from them. We know where they stay and will follow them and deal with them”, Issah Alhassan, leader of the aggrieved youth told mynewsgh.com.

Proceedings on Monday May 22, 2017 at the district assembly hall complex ended abruptly after it was observed the nominee could not make the mark.

Assembly members suddenly became the target of the aggrieved party supporters who started pelting stones at them but for timely intervention of the armed police who fired warning shots to disperse them and later locked the honorable members in the DCE’s office.

They spent several hours at the assembly premises before tempers calmed and they were later escorted by the police to their individual homes but the youth insist they will know no peace until the bribes they received are returned in full.

Meanwhile, the failed nominee has called for calm and appealed to his supporters not to do anything that would destabilize the peace in the area.

“I have called them to keep calm after all being a DCE is not a do or die affair”, he stated.
