Alfred Agbesi Woyome As Ghana's Minister Of Financial Engineering?

The report of a group of prominent Ghanaian politicians from both NDC and NPP going to honor the former Ambassador Alfred Agbesi Woyome, charged with collecting an undeserved $51 million payoff from the late Atta Mills Government some six or more years ago with the help of then Attorney General Betty Mould Idrissu is interesting.

This was at a memorial service for his mother at Dabala Global evangelical Church in the Volta Region (Ghanaweb May 21, 2017).

Geniuses are born in every society and every era. It looks like His Excellency Ambassador Alfred Agbesi Woyome was clever as well as generous and sharing!

Should Ghana consider him as Minister of Financial Engineering?

Ghana needs brainy people and perhaps such a Ministry to solve our national problems!

Woyome can perhaps solve the nations problems for us! He calls himself a Financial Engineer. Not sure he is a real Engineer but there are few of us who understand Finance very well as well as Engineering! As we know Engineering is a creative design and solutions-offering profession while Finance adds money to the table! One can't go wrong combining the two!

A man takes $51 million (Ghs 51 million) when the rate of exchange was $1:Ghs1 and shares say $1-2 million or Ghs 1-2 million and employs Lawyers. He keeps sharing part of the money! He deposits say $45-48 million in Government Bonds, CD or Bank dollar deposit accounts at say 25-35% interest and in about 5 years takes only part of the interest accumulated. This interest will be a minimum of say $12.5 million per year for 5 years or $62.5 million. He exchanges part or all of the $62.5 gained (now at Ghs4:$1) for say Ghs 250 million interest gained and pays part of the Ghs 51 million back to Government (say Ghs 31 to make the Judges and government who keep saying he owes Ghs 51 million happy).

Generosity has rewards both on earth as it does in Heaven! Alfred shares say Ghs 50 million of the remaining Ghs 200 among friends and politicians and keep the remaining Ghs 150 million for local investment and spending. He keep sharing!

Remember the initial Capital deposit of $45-48 is still intact as Principal!

The man is a genius and I think the least they can do is make him Minister of Financial Engineering in Ghana! An additional Ministry added is not going to hurt us! And he can even generate his own revenue to pay for his Ministry's budget expenses.

As an Engineer and Manager in California for over a decade it took me till the late 1980s when I became a licensed Loan or Financial Broker to realize the world of intrigue in Compound interest and how money works! Compound interest of money is not easy or trivial and College theoretical Education has to be put to real practice to see how we borrow say $100 million to $4 billion in 1980s and never finish paying for it after 20 years and keep borrowing more to pay for interests.

It is hard to see Ken Ofori Atta, Seth Terkper, Dr. Daaku or Dr. Kwesi Botchwey understanding the complexity without the practical Engineering aspects! And this is where men like Alfred Woyome come in!
