The Director of research and innovation at the Tamale Technical University (TTU), Suleimana Alhassan has challenged students of the Hospitality and Institutional management department of the school to use the knowledge they obtained from the institute in creating jobs for themselves and others.

He said it is sad that, some students from the institute after completion goes round in search of white color jobs when they can create jobs with the knowledge they acquired in the school for themselves and even employ others.

Mr Suleimana said these when addressing students and family relations at an exhibition forum organized by final year students from the Hospitality and Institutional management on Thursday.

“I want to give you all the encouragement in what you are doing that, it should not only end here, outside here is where we want you to take to. Be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship will go along way to help your profile and the profile of the institution” he said.

“If I were you , I will not go seeking for jobs anywhere, what I will be interested in is turning the ideas into a commercial ventures” Mr. Suleimana tasked the students.

On Thursday, dozens of final year student studying hospitality and tourism management at the Tamale Technical University lined up their handicrafts for exhibition at the forecourt of the school. Some of the exhibiting items included; species made from watermelon seed, moringa leafs, milk made from groundnut, bread spread made from honey and cocoa, juice made from banana and lemons, as well as biscuits and cakes made from yam and cocoa yam among others.

The exhibition formed part of the academic requirement of the students assessment leading to the the award of their certificates.

Mr Suleimana encouraged the students to utilize the skills they have acquired at the university so that society will benefit from their labor.

On his part, the pro-Vice Chancellor at the university, Abdul Manan Dawuda appealed to financial institutions to make loan acquisition simpler for the graduating students so that they can acquire capital to start their own business.

According to him, graduates from both the institution and others finds it difficult to access loans from the banks due to the requirements leaving them with no option but to go round seeking for available jobs

Meanwhile, some of the students who spoke to the media appealed to parents to give their children who found themselves in vocational institutions the needed support so that they can complete their course without the too much challenges.

According them, student assessment practical fees and others makes it difficult for students who come from poor homes to cope with, making some of them deferring their course whiles others just abandon their dreams.
