Reconstruct road- pleads Assemblyman

Listen to article

Akumsa-Domase (B/A), May 10, GNA - Mr. Yaw Tabiri, Member of the Akumsa-Domase Area Council in the Nkoranza district of Brong-Ahafo Region has complained that the contract work undertaken on the construction and tarring of the main street of Akumsa-Domase was not properly carried out as it has just started developing some defects.

He has therefore, challenged the government and the authorities that awarded the project on contract to visit the area to inspect the road and then advise the contractor who worked on it to correct the defects.

Mr. Tabiri told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akumsa-Domase that because the blocks of the flowerbed in the road were not properly chalked with concrete, they have started falling off into the road. The bitumen at the surface of the road was so light that the chippings spread on them could not make the road smooth enough and has therefore started turning into its past and old condition.

Mr. Tabiri said it was just unfortunate that when the Area Council members confronted the Contractor to report the defects to him he snubbed them and said he did not win the contract work from them and therefore carried out the work haphazardly.

A culvert he provided to control the drains alongside the road has no pavements and for that matter the gutter is now choked up with silt following the current rains in the area.

He expressed grave concern about how the people of Akumsa Domase were supplied with untreated low-tension poles during their self-help electrification programme (SHEP) saying contractors awarded work in the area always carry out shoddy work.

Mr. Tabiri who is also an NPP youth in the area said if contractors should be allowed to provide shoddy works in the communities, then the nation's resources would go waste and the people would suffer for it.

He therefore, stressed the need for the authorities concerned with the award of such contract to pay the needed attention to his complain and put the contractor on track to perform to satisfaction.
