The President’s nominee as District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Gushiegu District Assembly in the Northern Region has been rejected on first round of voting by assembly members for the area.

Abdulai Yakubu, a teacher by profession polled 9 votes against and 23 dissenting making him unfit for a second chance unless he is re-nominated by the president who has the executive powers.

Prior to voting, Deputy Northern Regional Minister Solomon Boar went into closed door meeting with the 32 assemblymen with the hope of convincing them to vote for the nominee but this appeared to have yielded little effort.

Some of the assemblymen who spoke to mynsewsgh.com on grounds of strict anonymity indicated that the nominee was imposed on them by the Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu threatening to reject even if he is brought back again.

“There is no way we can accept him as the DCE for the area. This is someone who was imposed on us despite several resistances. Our rejection is to show them that our choice must superintend anyone’s interest”, one of them stated.
