PPP Don't just talk, lead in public sector reform; Nduom tells Akufo-Addo
MAY 12, 2017 LISTEN

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) 2016 Presidential Candidate has asked President Nana Akufo-Addo to be lead attitudinal change agent instead of complaining.

Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom told Joy News Wednesday, what Ghana needs is not a whining leader but someone who will solve problems.

The entrepreneur said the President will not get much done if he continues lamenting about the state of the country he inherited.

“When I was at the Public Sector Reform Ministry we came up with solutions [and] initiatives but all of it takes leadership,” he said.

Dr Nduom’s comment comes three days after the President berated public sector workers for their tardy attitude towards work in his speech to mark May Day celebration on Monday.

“When efforts are made to improve pay levels without a commensurate improvement in productivity, the results, inevitably, point to macroeconomic instability for our country,” the President said.

Although he did not suggest current pay levels are satisfactory, he said productivity levels and work attitudes are unsatisfactory in all levels of the economy.

President Akufo-Addo called on the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to help bring about a change in attitude of workers to drive his government’s many projects.

But Dr Nduom said the change will take place in the public sector if the President demonstrates through his action that he is committed to that.

“I am hoping the President will lead the process to get the public sector to work because if the public sector doesn’t work it affects negatively those at the private sector,” he said.
