Company responds to UEW appeal

Winneba (C/R), May 9, GNA - Digitronix, dealer in computers and other electronics applies on Monday presented a cheque for 10 million cedis to the authorities of the University Of Education Winneba (UEW) towards its 9th congregation on Saturday, May 14, 2005.

Making the presentation at the University's Chamber Hall on behalf of the Company, Mr Emmanuel Obeng, Chairman and Chief Executive said this was in response to appeal by the University for assistance towards the programme.

Mr Obeng promised to assist the University, which he said is one of its clients during its future donations to institutions and departments. According to him, last year his company donated items and cash totalling about 450 million cedis, being ten per cent of its profit to institutions and department in the country.

Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, Vic-Chancellor of the University, who received the cheque on behalf of the University, thanked the company for its kind gesture.

He said the University, which is responsible for the training of teachers to offer basic education to the country's human resource requirements, needed more assistance not only from the government but also from NGOs and the private sector to achieve its aims and objectives.

Professor Anamuah-Mensah said it was in this regard that the University was appealing for assistance from the general public towards its 9th congregation and for other programmes. Among those present were Professor Jonas Akpanglo-Nartey, Pro-vice-chancellor and Mr J. N. Ayetey, registrar. 9 May 05
