Busunya residents raise funds toward Police Station project

Busunya (B/A) May 9, GNA-Residents of Busunya in the Nkoranza District in the Brong-Ahafo Region realised 12 million cedis at a fund-raising rally towards the construction of a Police Station at the weekend.

They are also paying special contributions of 20,000 cedis a man and 10,000 cedis a woman, whilst non-residents were contributing 50,000 cedis a man and 25,000 cedis a woman towards the project.

Mr. Adjei Yeboah, the Presiding Member of Nkoranza District Assembly, commended the people for their voluntary spirit and gave the assurance that the assembly would support the project. The Presiding Member on behalf of the Assembly pledged to provide 100 bags of cement and five bundles of roofing sheets as initial assistance. The District Police Commander, Mr. Roland Solomon Osei, praised the people for ensuring that police personnel in the area had permanent accommodation. He appealed to the people to co-operate with the police and to report activities of suspected criminals to the security agencies. Mr Osei announced that two additional police personnel would be posted the area.

Dr Kwasi Nsiah-Gyabaah, a citizen of the area and Principal of Sunyani Polytechnic called on parents to invest in the education of their children instead of spending lavishly on funerals and other social activities. Mr. Matthew Owusu-Abebrese, an official of the Forestry Department expressed regret about the low standard of female education in the area and appealed to parents to enrol their daughters in schools and support them to further their education.

He called on unit committees, traditional authorities and assembly members to collaborate efforts to raise funds for the construction of drains to check erosion in the area and cautioned the people against illegal felling of trees. Mr. Eric Amoateng, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North donated 1.5 million cedis in support of the police station project.
