6-Year-Old Boy Drowns In A Dam

A six year old boy pupil of the Banwon Primary School has died after drowning in a dam in Banwon in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region.

The victim whose name was given as Kwame was said to have gone to swim in the dam but met his untimely death when he slipped into the shallow part of the dam.

According to an eyewitness, Sumuna Jaleel, the victim was swimming in the dam with his friends when the incident happened.

He said the young boy gave his last breath notwithstanding efforts by the people around to save his life.

According to him, it is the first time such incident happened in the community.

He indicated that the elders in the community has warned the youth to desist from swimming in the dam as some parts are very shallow and dangerous but some recalcitrant children still defy orders and go there to swim.

Kwame's unfortunate death leaves his family in sorrow as he is the only child of his parents.
