Mampong (Ash), May 01, GNA - The Methodist Bishop of Effiduase, the Right Reverend Robert Osborne Eshun, has called for accountability and transparency in the management of funds of the church.

He asked that the various circuits and societies of the church kept proper books to avoid revenue misapplication.

The Rt. Rev Eshun was addressing the 20th annual diocesan synod of the church held at Asante-Mampong under the theme; 'Go and make disciples of all nations: Rekindling the faith of our fathers for church growth'.

He reminded the leadership of the circuits and societies to see to it that any spending they made had been approved.

There should be financial discipline and that there should be no reason to divert monies into anything that had not been sanctioned by the church.

The Rt. Rev Eshun expressed discomfort with the situation where financial regulations were flouted and said that could not continue.

The synod, provided the platform for both the clergy and the laity to discuss and to have better understanding of their responsibilities to advance Methodism.

The Diocesan Bishop pointed out that the church was founded on the core values of truth, integrity and discipline and said these must never be compromised.

He also encouraged them not to depart from the 'Wesleyan mission' - the commitment to the cause of humanity.

The Rt. Rev Eshun underlined the determination of the church to stand with the government in its fight to stop the pollution of water bodies and destruction of the vegetation through illegal mining (galamsey).

It was in the interest of everybody that the environment was protected, he added.
