As the world celebrates labour day today, we the members of Modern Women of Wisdom International join hands with millions of cheerleaders across the globe to salute workers for their hard work.

Today is a very important day to workers because this is the day workers reflect on the merits of their financial Independence and security and the impact they have made on families and societies.

On this day of celebration, Governments and stakeholders must not forget the disadvantaged majority who are unemployed, the physically challenged, employees with less access to their pension benefits, those who cannot enjoy their labour rights etc.

From time immemorial societies have wrestled with the problem of finding the proper balance between upholding the principle of discrimination free employment on one hand, and on granting Standard Social Security benefits to workers on the other hand.

This generation is facing a world comprised of complex challenges, the biggest of which is unemployment. And for women, the challenge is even bigger, as they confront a glaring gender gap.

We have heard stories of people who are unable to access death or disability compensation, cannot access their pension, provident funds and other social benefits.

Employers must ultimately improve worker's standard of living because it is the basic requirement in growth productivity and national building.

The earnings of workers must be raised by redistributing income from profits, dividends, and interest because these factors cannot sustain a persistent rise in income.

Again, workers must not feel alienated from the salary agreement system to help shape the working environment.

What workers need at this dire moment is a system of collective bargaining that directs employers effort to the ultimate lasting source of their workers welfare.

With entrepreneurship becoming the trend, entrepreneurship education is needed to facilitate self-employment in young people by honing their passion and creativity to meet the challenges of starting their own businesses.

We urge the unemployed section to take a responsibility over their situations rather than being a silent spectator.

People who usually cease the moments and take responsibilities of their situations end up being self-employed through their entrepreneurship thereby becoming problem solving leaders for their communities and also creating jobs for other young people.

Today we urge young people to learn how to fulfill and follow their own dreams.
