MPs Visa Fraud: Jon Benjamin Must Take The Blame
01.05.2017 LISTEN

The Centre for Business and Economic Research wants the British High Commissioner to Ghana to be blamed if indeed it is through some Members of Parliament (MP) over allegations of fraudulent acquisition of visas.

The UK High Commissioner in Ghana, Jon Benjamin accused former and 3 incumbent MPs to have fraudulently secured visas from the Embassy for relatives to overstay in Britain.

But the Executive Director of Center for Economic and Business Research, Mr. Newlove Asamoah has laid the blame on the doorstep of the accuser(s) if these allegations are indeed valid.

“I will not say they engaged in visa fraud or acquired the visas fraudulently. If I have a diplomatic passport and that entitles me to get a visa why not use it”, Mr. Asamoah asked.

“MPs have enviable positions so they can have everything they want as far as visas and other favours are concerned. They are in charge in the absence of the executives”

“It is up to the Embassy to determine whether the purpose of their visit whether it is official or not and can use it or not. I will not blame the applicants”

“When they were applying I believe they stated the reasons for which they were applying for the visas. So the Embassy should have told them that you cannot use your diplomatic passport and that use your regular passport”.

“But if I want to go on a visit as an MP and I have a diplomatic passport and use it to apply for a visa and you give me how is that fraudulent?..There is nothing fraud in using a passport that belongs to me”

“Yes it is a diplomatic passport but still belongs to me. It is not as if I have forged somebody passport to use”. He explained.
