A Message To All Workers In Commemoration Of May Day, 2017: Your Career Determines Your State Of Satisfaction Or Dissatisfaction In Life
01.05.2017 LISTEN

There are two kinds of work engagements described in the Bible which humans engage their productive years on earth working in. One kind of work brings joy and fulfilment to the worker (Eccl. 3:13), but the other brings dissatisfaction, regret, frustration, anger, etc. to the worker (Eccl. 2:22-23).

The former kind of work engagement, the Bible says is by the hand of God (Eccl. 2:24). This makes us understand that, there is a kind of work God has already prepared us to pursue a career in sync with His purpose for our life. Those who discover theirs, enjoy their work. However, those who do not discover theirs engage in a different kind of work which God has not assigned for their lives. The fact needs to established that the purpose of working is to enjoy fulfilment and gain satisfaction in life (Eccl. 5:18-19). Work is therefore directly related to one’s state of satisfaction or dissatisfaction in life.

The concept of working is therefore not one of those brilliant human ideas just to keep us busy, earn income, later retire or die; but it’s God’s original tool through which we fulfil our destiny on earth and enjoy eternity. Every human being on earth irrespective of their religious conviction believes in the supreme purpose of God for man and destiny. This supreme purpose cannot be operational and or achieved in a vacuum. No! It is a task which needs to be performed. The medium in performing that task is through working.

Working in your area of assigned career makes you embark on your purpose assignment in order to fulfil your destiny on this earth. Those who are not working in their assigned work domain are off their destiny path, hence become frustrated with work and life in general. What we are witnessing within the labour force across Ghana and Africa is enough evidence to support the above truth; that many of our workers are spending their energy, time and resources in the wrong professions. The negative effects are the monsters of corruptions, theft, embezzlement, cheating, extortion, misusing company resources such as stationery, lukewarm attitudes to work duties; with all these leading to low productivity in the system.

When you are exerting your energy in a job description which is not within your natural abilities, aptitudes, capacity and natural career domain, your body releases much greater energy and yet output is minimal. This will overtime frustrate your energy level at the workplace and lead to personal dissatisfaction in life. However, those who engage their energy in the right work activity, release energy which is equal to their abilities, aptitudes, thereby leading to optimal productivity. They enjoy their work schedules because they often release positive energy propositional to their work output.

For example, I employ the services of a mason. He was accompanied with another worker. I consciously observed their work overtime. I noticed while one person was able to lay four blocks; the other was still trying to finish with laying one block. At the end of the day’s work, I engaged them to ascertain their purpose path and natural career orientation. It turned out that, the mason who laid more blocks had the natural aptitude wiring to pursue a mason profession. The other mason did not possess that natural aptitude, hence is engaged in the wrong profession. This therefore was evident by their output levels. Should the mason who did not possess the natural aptitude for the mason profession insist to work as such, he will experience what is termed at mid-life crisis (a period of age in life between 45-64 where the individual experiences psychological stress or regret for not accomplishing any worthwhile feat or something purposeful in life), despite working hard and earning income.

To re-emphasise, work is God’s original tool through which we fulfil our destiny. As such, working goes beyond just earning good income, keeping you busy or demanding for higher pay. In commemoration of this year’s MAY DAY, I want to say Ayekoo to all Ghanaian workers, as well as workers across the African continent. My message to you is that you hold the key to our country’s economic development and growth. Your state of productivity at the workplace plays a direct role to that effect, as well as the well-being of yourself and family.

Your state of dissatisfaction with your work duties has nothing to do with low salary, therefore demanding salary increases through strikes are temporal measures to intrinsic imbalances of pursuing the wrong career. As we commemorate this day, kindly do a self-assessment of whether or not you are indeed pursuing the right career? If your answer is no, you need not to worry. As a Purpose Driven Career Coach and author of two books in these areas, we will guide you prepare your career path and how you can do a smooth transition into your purposed career path without any fear of the unknown. We are here for you; just call on us.

Let this quote from the writer guide you;
“Hard work is good. However, working hard in a wrong career

path makes you waste the fruits of your labour,

but working hard in your purposed career path

makes you enjoy the fruits of your labour”.

Happy May Day to all workers. Ayekoo!!!
