By Jerry Azanduna, GNA,
Zebilla (U/E), April 28, GNA - Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, Upper East Regional Minister, has called on youth activists to desist from using violence to highlight their concerns.

Mr Bukari said vandalism is unconstitutional and it is unlawful for people to take the laws into their own hands.

He said this when he met some youth and party activists of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Zebilla Constituency who allegedly vandalized the district assembly and the party office in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

They did this to protest against Madam Victoria Ayamba, the President's nominee for the position of District Chief Executive.

Similar unprovoked attacks and demonstration occurred in the Builsa North District where the NPP party office was allegedly vandalized in protest against the nomination of Mr David Afoko for the position of District Chief Executive.

Mr Bukari, who later inspected the affected departments of the Assembly, said the act would not bring about development and would only disturb the peace in the area.

He called on the youth to remain calm and be law abiding as government would not condone any unlawful acts.

The Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (RESEC), charged the security apparatus in the area to arrest and prosecute all those who participated in the said acts.

The youth attacked the District Assembly and destroyed some of the decentralized departments including the departments of Social Welfare, Non Formal Education unit, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the National Youth Employment Agency (NYEA) and the Assembly's canteen, and made away with some office equipment including laptops, desktop computers and office furniture.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Huno Broni in charge of the Bawku West District Police Command, said investigations have already started to fish out the perpetrators of the acts and in due course they would be put before the law courts.
