Abrem Berase (C/R), April 27, GNA - The people of Abrem Berase and Abeyee in the Komenda - Edina - Eguafo - Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region have urged the Government to establish a cassava processing factory in the area as the Government prepares to roll out its one district, one factory initiative.

With the one district, one factory initiative being one of the major investment and unemployment solution policy of the Government, the people were optimistic that the establishment of the factory would solve the unemployment situation.

According to them, there was a vast arable land of more than 98,000 acres, greater part of which was lying idle and could be good for agricultural investment to accelerate the growth of the community for improved livelihoods.

The two communities have a population of more than 5,700 with farming and trading as their main economic activities.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), some small scale gari processors in the two communities, appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture to assist them to procure a drier and dressing machine to enhance their operations.

Madam Agnes Eduah, a gari processor from Berase bemoaned how sometimes their farm produce were left to rot simply because they did not have buyers and also could not process them into gari due to lack of funds.

She appealed to the Government to help them have access to finance to expand their business activities and put in place measures for farmers to have ready markets.

Some farmers who spoke to the GNA lauded the President's 'Planting for Food and Jobs' campaign but urged the Government not to be discriminatory in its implementation.

The 'Planting for Food and Jobs' is a new initiative and intervention introduced by the government to promote national food security and job creation.
