Accra, April 25, GNA - The Osu Traditional Council has rewarded and placed the title of Naa Norley Gbekebiiakane I, on Dr Eunhye Park, the Worldwide President of Organisation Mondiale pour I'Education Prescolaire (OMEP).

The Gbekebiiakane is a Ga language literary meaning children's light.

Mrs Abimbola Are, the Vice President of OMEP was also decorated at the colourful ceremony held at the forecourt of the Osu Castle in Accra.

Dr Park and her Vice would work in partnership with the Council to promote education to eradicate illiteracy and teenage pregnancy in the Osu traditional area, seek sponsorship and support the School Management Committee of the Council.

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, the Osu Mantse and the President of the Council in a speech said it was about time parents realised the importance of education and attached seriousness to it to brighten the future their children.

He said Dr Park had come to restore hope and to whip up the interest of school going among children and asked parents to actively support her to succeed in her endeavours.

Nii Kinka Dowuona said it was sad to observe the youth idling around, while children of school going age sold on the streets to make quick money.

He said this attitude did not motivate school going among children in the area because they saw their peers making quick money on the streets and therefore did not realise the importance of education.

Nii Kinka said this had resulted in teenage pregnancies adding that it was time to curb the menace, through the instrumentality of the entire community and chiefs.

Dr Park pledged to be the light to the children and would therefore help to restore the glory of the community and expressed the hope that the partnership would go a long way to give the children hope.
