Catholic Mission commends RLG Foundation
25.04.2017 LISTEN

The Parish Priest of the Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Mission at Sirigu in the Upper East Region, Rev. Fr. Jacob Moldana has lauded the benevolence of a section of Ghanaians to ensure the challenges of the socially disadvantaged are addressed.

According to him, caring for the needy remains a major tradition of the founder of Christianity which ought to be exemplified by followers and believers of the Christian faith.

Rev. Fr. Jacob Moldana was addressing a ceremony at Sirigu at which inmates and caregivers of the Mother of Mercy Babies Home were feted by the RLG Foundation as part of the Easter festivities.

The Mother of Mercy Babies Home, also known as the Sirigu Orphanage, is operated by the local Roman Catholic Church as a dedicated facility for children whose parents are either no more or were abandoned by their families on suspicion that they are spirit children, a common deep-rooted socio-cultural phenomenon in the Kansena Nankana District.

Following a Joy FM news story about the challenges of the Home in 2011, the RLG Foundation has been offering it material and financial support towards its efficient management.

Previously, the Foundation had been supplied it with a Borehole to improve water supply, a double cabin pickup to enhance transportation needs as well as regular financial support.

The Home currently has 17 inmates including two set of twins.

Both inmates and their caregivers were treated to their favourite meal and drinks.

An official of the Foundation, Mr Emmanuel Arthur also made unspecified cash donation to the Home and said the gesture was “a small way of supporting a group of people whom through no fault of theirs have been rendered socially disadvantaged”.

Rev. Fr. Moldana was full of praise for the gesture and recommendation its emulation by kind-hearted persons.

He said such supports have ensured the peculiar needs of inmates were promptly addressed and commended the RLG Foundation for being supportive over the years.
