Stop Discriminating Against Zabramas – Chief Appeals

Chief Alhaji PRO - Tanko Umar, a veteran Journalist who double as President of Ghana Zabrama Association and Greater Accra Regional Zabrama Chief has appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency put measures in place to curb the discrimination and intimidation of Zabramas in the country.

Chief Tanko who made the appeal at the sideline of the installation of the Zabrama paramount Chief at Zabrama line, a suburb of Greater Accra stated that their people are being discriminated and intimidated in some government and private institutions and are described as aliens hence his appeal.

According to him, the people of Zabrama have been in Ghana for centuries and have married the indigens with children serving in high official positions therefore it is unconstitutional and uncalled for to be seen as such adding that the people of Zabrama have contributed massively towards the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Ghana.

The Zabramas originated from Niger, and have settled in Ghana for a long time, with majority of them being traders.

Zabrama he said are honest and trusted when it comes to doing business and have been living peaceful with other tribes.

With this, he called on the government to ensure that Zabramas are treated fairly and are given their share of the national cake.

According to the veteran journalist, “the constitution has stated that language is not a barrier for an indication of who is not a Ghanaian and the Zabramas would put to right the thinking of people about the way people look at Zabramas in Ghana”.

He further appealed to government to build unity among Zabramas and others adding that “in society where there is segregation that community will not progress”.

On his part, the newly installed Chief Alhaji Ibrahim Iddrisu Migaa assured of his commitment to ensure his people forged ahead in unity than it used to be in the past.

Chief Iddrisu urged the government to help communities renovate and expand their markets to encourage the youth to go into trading.

This to him would reduce the unemployment rate at Zabrama line and Zongo communities in general across the country.

The magajia [Queen Mother] Samira Amidu Amadu, advised all parents in the community to desist from investing their money on buying expensive clothes for marriage and naming ceremonies but rather channel it in their children education.

She added that “giving maximum Education to your children will help brighting their future that the Zabrama communities will be proud to have Doctors, Lawyers, nurses and among others”.
