Guilin Pharma, a subsidiary of the Fosun Pharma group, has donated malaria drugs and other medical items to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital in connection with the 2017 World Malaria Day celebration.

The Day will be commemorated globally on Thursday, April 25 with the WHO theme: “End Malaria for Good”.

According to the World Malaria Report 2016 , in 2015, there were 212 million new cases of malaria and 429,000 deaths. One child dies from malaria every two minutes. Nearly half of the world's population is at risk of malaria.

Malaria remains both a major cause and a consequence of global poverty and inequity: its burden is greatest in the least developed areas and among the poorest members of society. Many of those most vulnerable – especially young children and pregnant women – are still not able to access the life-saving prevention, diagnosis and treatment they so urgently need.

Thankfully, global partners and the key stakeholders believe, “We can be the generation that ends malaria – one of the oldest and deadliest diseases in human history”.

Against this backdrop, Guilin Pharma has over the years supported a number of good causes, as part of its corporate social responsibility and contribution to the global effort to control malaria.

The company is recognized globally as an integrated industry chain for Artemisinin-based medicines. The company market its products in developing countries, and supply products to clients all over the world. Its clientele includes , WHO, UNICEF, ICRC, MSF, as well as other governmental, profit- and non-profit organizations.

Guilin Pharma has been operating in the Ghanaian market over the past seven years, producing a variety of drugs, but focusing on Anti-malaria drugs production, and other generic drugs.

In 2015 the company made a similar donation to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The items (Anti-Malaria drugs,G-Abzole, LED Display Screen, Wound Plasters, Thermometers and Stethoscopes) were presented by Mr. Wang Yafeng the Managing Director and Mr. Cyrus Baidoo the Sales and Marketing Manager of Guilin Pharmaceuticals.

Receiving the donation, the acting head of the pharmacy unit of the hospital Mrs. Sheila Gyasi Nimako thanked Guilin for the gesture, and noted that such support would help in the fight to control and ultimately end Malaria.

She noted that the hospital is challenged and therefore needs more of such support. And stated her outfit will do well with more of such support from other companies.

Pantang is one of three Psychiatric hospitals in Ghana. It is the largest and was commissioned in 1975.
