Opinion Galamsey - Government Officials In Bed With Miners
APR 24, 2017 LISTEN

Ghanaians awoken to the reality of the supposed "Gold Rush " catapulted by the Chinese invasion of the Ghanaian Mining industry, with the destruction of Ghana's water bodies creating what is now known as the "Golden Curse".

This destruction is eroding away the livelihood of communities far and near to these Water bodies, creating a national threat of Water shortage which could eventually lead to the government of Ghana having to import drinking water to meet the demands of its citizenry.

All Government communicators who have embarked on assurance floats on local/social media have all failed to truly give the average Ghanaian the assurance that government can put a stop to the menace which is causing to the country's water bodies be poisoned and becoming deadly to the environment at large .

These communicators have taken the posture of doubt, by pronouncing to Ghanaians and to the foreign interests that the menace CAN NOT to stopped, with such irresponsible statements like " these methods of mining has been with us for centuries and would continue to be " or " we can NOT prevent these miners from polluting our environment / water bodies " , which are but a few comments and utterances made by Government communicators and appointees.

Common sense teaches us all that the human psyche is programmed in such a way that when we point our minds to it is when we can tap into the energy needed to resolve whatever issues we face as humans , therefore to start off on a defeating foot in itself prove that we don't have the will let alone the energy to fight this menace in order to protect our own future as a people .

Israeli Scientist have already indicated that very soon Water would become so scares that some nations would start importing water, therefore encourage investors to start investing in Water, which is what sustains our very existence as humans. Therefore for the current Government of Ghana to taken on the challenge, it becomes imperative that every communicator for Government truly understands that magnitude of the problem and it's far reaching consequences, for only then would their utterances make the desired impact in the hearts and minds of all Ghanaians. #StopGalamseyNow has taken off with all the right intentions, but now it's up to Government and Law Enforcement agencies to ensure that policies in place to arrest this menace from spreading further is implemented by our Police/Army/Naval/Air forces. This concerted effort can help us protect our environment and make our water bodies safe and sustainable again.

I therefore call on the Government of Ghana, to exhibit more resolve by way of schooling it's communicators to understand that the indecisive or lukewarm attitude towards the menace of Galamsey only makes Ghanaians think that perhaps some government officials are in bed with these some of these miners is why there is no decisive WE ARE GOING TO STOP THIS MENACE TO OUR WATER BODIES coming from Government communicators.

The head of the Lands and Minerals Commission on GhOneTv programme The Lounge aired 23rd April 2017 , gave listeners the impression that the resolve of Government is not far reaching because the posture of government is more of tolerance than preventative.

Let's stop Galamsey now by placing and enforcing legislature that would regulate and protect our water bodies , and this should NOT be a partisan game , but rather an obligation to every Ghanaian. Help us protect Ghana, by being proudly Ghanaian. God bless our homeland Ghana.
