About five thousand participants including professional and amateur athletes are expected to converge on the Asante Akyem town of Akutuase for the much publicized 20-kilometer marathon race which will end at the Collins Park at Agogo.
The first ever biggest marathon in the Asante Akyem town is being organized single-handedly by the former member of parliament for the Asante Akim North, Hon Kwadwo Baah Agyemang.
Sources close to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper hints that athletes from far and near are itching to participate in tomorrow's race.
According to our source, athletes from other West African countries as at last week Wednesday had made their way into Ghana for the event.
In an exclusive interview ahead of the marathon, the youthful Kwadwo Baah Agyemang said the purpose of the race was to unearth more talents for the country in the area of athletics.
According to him, the country abounds in much talent in every sphere of sports including the lesser known sports.
This, he noted gives him encouragement to help unearth talents in the area of marathon which has not been given much attention.
The former MP indicated his desire to also use the event to encourage the youth to take delight in exercising their bodies since healthy minds lived in healthy bodies.
Revealing the mouth-watering prizes, Hon Baah Agyemang said the first prize winner will have a Ghana-London ticket to represent the country in the upcoming London marathon.
The second placed person and others are also to receive mouth-watering packages.
The first to the tenth placed participants, the paper learned would also have the opportunity to participate in the Milo marathon which will be organized very soon in the country.
As at the time of filing this report ambulances and security arrangements had been put in place to ensure all goes well at the event.
Volunteers had also been readied to be at vantage points to administer support in the form of the provision of water and glucose drinks to participants across the route of Akutuase up to the Collins Park which will serve as the end point.
The Minister of sports and other high-profile sports personalities will be gracing the ceremony to offer their support and encouragement at the event.
