Leadership Of Dagbong Youth For Development Congratulates Tamale Metro Chief Executive

The leadership of Dagbong Youth for Development (“DYD”), a legally registered non – political youth group in Tamale, called on the Metro chief executive to congratulate him and assure him of their support to develop the metropolis and the Dagbong kingdom at large.

The group led by its interim president, Alhaji Jagbo Baako, interim secretary Dawud Zakaria Kishki and two founding committee members delivered their congratulatory message to the mayor when they called on him on Tuesday April 13, 2017. The group congratulated the mayor for his appointment and the subsequent overwhelming endorsement he received from the assembly, lauding it as a sign of the willingness on the part of citizens of the metropolis to bury their difference and work for a common goal.

The interim President reminded the mayor that such an endorsement puts a challenge on him to accept and be a mayor for all citizens of the metropolis just as he is accepted by all. He also assured the mayor of the group’s willingness to work with him to bring lasting peace, unity and development to the kingdom.

“DYD believes that a peaceful, developed and progressive Tamale will have a spillover effect on the entire Dagbong Kingdom; and therefore deem the position a very significant one in maintaining peace and development for Dagbong and the northern region as a whole.” He added.

The group also called on the mayor to do all in his capacity as the leader of the metropolis to maintain the current peaceful coexistence of the citizens of the area.

“In the area of peace, we can say that the area is relatively stable now – we would however implore you to adopt measures that would unite the citizens of the Metropolis to maintain and promote the current peace for the development of the region. We are challenging you to make it a goal that, your appointment will serve as the end of the era, when Tamale’s name would be in the news for all the bad reasons.”

The mayor on his part thanked the group for their message and promised to offer it any support needed to help accomplish their goals of bringing the youth of Dagbon together.

Dagbong youth was formed as a group that will represent, protect and guarantee the interest of the youth of Dagbong, with a long term goal of having a unified mouthpiece for the youth of the North. It is currently concentrated largely in the North while working to establish branches throughout Ghana. The group boasts of its ability to bring people from different political and royal backgrounds together for the common goal of Dagbong.
