Takoradi, April 1, GNA - Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwasi Mensah Duku, Western Regional Police Commander, has said the Command would work hard and adopt proactive as well as pragmatic strategies to reduce crime to its barest minimum.

'The Regional Command has noted with grave concern the increase in crimes such as murder, robbery, defilement, rape, possessing narcotics drugs and defrauding by false pretence', he said.

The Command recorded 48 murder cases, 60 robberies, 149 defilement, 49 rape, 28 narcotics, 1348 defrauding by false pretence and 3,728 stealing cases in the year 2016 an increase of between 10 and 57 percent as against 2015.

The Regional Commander gave the figures during the 2016 West African Security Services Association (WASSA) annual get together at Takoradi in the Region.

The WASSA also offered the services an opportunity to review their performance and enable them to strategize to improve security delivery to the public, promote team work and spirit.

DCOP DUKU said another area of concern was road crashes saying the carnage on the country's roads was soaring day after day and is mainly attributed to human error.

He said the command has, therefore, intensified education and enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations to bring sanity on the road.

DCOP Duku urged personnel of the command to continue to work harder to maintain law and order in the country saying, 'We should eschew any negative attitude and behaviour that would dent the image of the service.'

Madam Eugenia Kusi, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, lauded the relentless efforts of the security services in maintaining law and order within the Region.

She said the Regional Coordinating Council would continue to collaborate and support them as they discharged their duties.
