Accra, April 26, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) has declared Adama Mensah, former African Boxing Union (ABU) heavyweight champion fit to fight again as a professional boxer.
This is sequel to his success at a medical examination conducted at the Korle Bu Polyclinic by Dr Carl Sonne, GBA's authorised medical consultant.
Speaking to the GNA Sports with the medical examination papers in his hands, the 47 year-old boxer said the medical report had vindicated him and shamed those who thought he was over the hills and could no longer fight as a professional.
"My fitness level has never been in doubt, for despite my huge frame, I work out regularly on the road and in the gym in order to reclaim my position as the undisputed heavyweight champion of Africa," he said.
Adama said he would demolish any heavyweight on the continent within six rounds and move on to "whip the lazy guys up there in the Commonwealth to earn a title chance with those unworthy chaps who parade themselves as world champions. "
He called on the big guns in the GBA to support him in his quest to make history instead of trying to discourage him from staging a come back, adding that he treasured his life and if he knew he was not fit he would not venture into the ring, knowing very that boxing was a dangerous sport.
On his proposed fight against Patrick Owie, the Nigerian boxer who had promised to retire him, Adama described Owie as a braggart who knew nothing except talking and making noise about things he was not capable of doing.
He advised Owie to "shut up" and conserve his energy for the D-day instead of resorting to unproductive rhetoric.
Meanwhile the Sole Mio (My Sunshine) maiden promotion on which Adama should have returned into the ring after over nine years in retirement has been postponed.
The bill, which was slated Friday, April 29 at the Azuma Nelson Sport Complex will now hold on Friday, July 29 at the same venue. Mr Charles Amuah, a member of the promotions syndicate announced the shift in date in a statement in Accra on Monday.
