Rumours making rounds in the Akwatia Constituency suggest that the five times National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate and a one time Member of Parliament for the Akwatia Constituency may consider looking elsewhere for political asylum as his chances of ever becoming a member of parliament for the Akwatia Constituency again keep dwindling.

According to our deep throat sources, Baba Jamal has started testing the waters in one of the Ayawaso seats to avert contesting the Akwatia Seat again. At least not when Ama Sey continues to contest on the ticket of the NPP.

The former deputy Minister of employment and labor relations who has been christened “Akwatia Mugabe” contested the Akwatia Constituency seat for four times losing twice to the current Eastern Regional Chairman of the Ruling New Patriotic Party, Kinston Akomen Kissi and ones to the late Dr. Kofi Asare before winning the seat marginally in the 2012 elections but lost miserably to a form four school leaver whom he (Baba) described as a ‘common hair dresser’ Mercy Ama Sey in what could be described as his biggest political defeat in his political life. A loss which our sources say really hurt Baba Jamal.

Akwatia became notorious for electoral violence when during the 2008 general election, some six ballot boxes were stolen at some six polling stations leading to the re-run of the election in those polling centers after a court ruling by the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court. Baba Jamal’s infamous declaration of that re-run as “jihad” and the excessive electoral violence and malpractices that characterized that very election positioned Baba Jamal as a ‘tyrant’ when it comes to elections in the country.

Meanwhile, during the 2012 general elections, Baba Jamal defeated then NPP Member of Parliament in the Constituency, the late Dr. Kofi Asare marginally making him a Member of Parliament for the constituency after close to a decade of trying.

However, in what many pundits describe as one of the fiercest contest ever in the history of the Akwatia Constituency’s electoral history amidst name calling and verbal attacks, Hon. Mercy Ama Sey then Constituency Women’s organizer of the NPP in the Akwatia Constituency defeated Baba Jamal in his (Baba) biggest electoral lost in the history of the constituency polling 15,905votes as against Ama Sey’s 21,433 votes.

Our sources however says Baba Jamal has been engaging with some NDC Constituency officers at the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region and has also been attending some programs in the constituency seeking to pave his way to contest in the next NDC Parliamentary Primaries in that Constituency.

Our deep throat sources within the NDC in the Akwatia Constituency also reveals that Baba Jamal is seeking to run away from the Akwatia Seat due to the deep rooted crack within the NDC in the constituency where supporters of he Baba Jamal and his opponent during the NDC Parliamentary Primaries Hon. Basil Ahiable (a one-time independent parliamentary candidate of the Akwatia seat) have vowed not to make the other succeed due to the huge acrimony and violence that characterized the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Constituency.

All attempts to reach Baba Jamal for his side of the story proved abortive.
