Kumasi, Mar 27, GNA - Hundreds of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality have staged a street protest as tension over the appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) escalates.

The placard-carrying party members said they strongly opposed attempts by some of their national officers to influence the appointment of the MCE in favor of Madam Beatrice Serwaah Derchie.

This is the second time within a space of four days that the rank and file and polling station executives backed by some assembly members had massed up on the streets.

Ms. Vivian Opoku, their Spokesperson, vowed they were not going to accept Madam Derchie as the MCE.

She was not known to anybody in the area, did not make any contribution to their election campaign and was also unfamiliar with the felt needs of the chiefs and people.

Ms. Opoku said the municipality had a tall list of qualified people - capable men and women, who worked really hard and made tremendous sacrifices, to win by huge margin the two parliamentary seats together with the presidential election in 2016.

She indicated that in as much as they as loyal and law abiding members of the NPP would not want defy the authority of the President, it would be difficult for them to cooperate or support Madam Derchie's appointment.

Any decision to appoint her to the MCE position, she added, would throw the party and the municipality into turmoil.
