Ho, March 25, GNA - Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister has inspected the Asikuma to Fume stretch of the Eastern Corridor Highway in the Volta Region.

Mr Muhammad Abu, Resident Engineer, Ghana Highways Authority said the Asikuma to Agate stretch of the road under Government of Ghana, which was awarded in April 2016 covering a distance of 45 kilometres was about 58 per cent complete.

He said the Agate to Alakpeti and the Alakpeti to Hohoe portions, financed by the Cocoa Roads Project and with a construction schedule of 36 months, were also 50 and 38 per cent complete respectively.

Mr Abu said the project, at various stages of completion was being tested for defects and that plans were underway to construct pedestrian underpasses, streetlights and other safety installations.

Mr Deng Jun, Commercial Manager, G.S International Developers said delays in executing the project were due to financial constraints.

Dr Letsa said he was happy with the progress of the work although the project was far behind schedule.

He said the project was one of government's top priorities and added that he would engage the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to address issues related to funding and to make sure all road projects in the Region were completed.

The US$290.64million Eastern corridor road project covering a distance of about 695 kilometres linking a couple of regions is financed by the Brazilian Development Bank, the Government of Ghana (GOG), and the Cocoa Roads Project.
