Accra, March 24, GNA -The National Council of Parent Teacher Associations (NCPTAs), has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of students who lost their lives at the Kintampo Waterfalls.

A statement signed by Mr Alexander Yaw Danso, the President of NCPTAs and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the authorities must stop at nothing to take punitive measures against all persons whose negligence of duty contributed to the tragedy.

It said the era of mediocrity, which resulted in inflicting unbearable pains on parents, families and the society must be a thing of the past.

The statement urged relevant authorities to institute thorough investigations into the disaster to unravel the cause in order to forestall similar occurrences in future.

'It is our resolve as parents to rise to the occasion this time around to follow up to the very core of this sorrowful matter. It is also our hope that corrective measures could be put in place where the investigations pointed out lapses,' it said.

The statement said tourism has become important and integral part of human life both locally and internationally offering leisure, education and generating revenue and therefore appealed to the sector Minister to ensure proper development of sites and requisite professionals to manage them in order to keep tourists safe, going forward.
