Tema, March 22, GNA - The Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI-Ghana) will soon institute legal action against Adamus Resource Limited, a mining company, for gross violation of the rights of the people of Anwie in the Western Region.

It would also compel the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minerals' Commission to implement all relevant legislations that protect the sanctity of life, culture and the environment in mining communities.

Speaking at a press conference in Tema, Mr Bismack Coffie, President of ILAPI, said all the officers of government agencies whose commission and omission had led to the suffering and dehumanising of the people of Anwie should have their emoluments frozen until further notice.

He also accused the Police and the Military for aiding and abetting and sometimes directly involved in the brutalisation and suppression of freedom of expression, association and movement in the community.

According to him, Adamus Resources Limited had 'broken all the rules in the mining book' and subjected the people of Anwie to noise, air and water pollution as well as beating up the youth when they agitate for better treatment.

'The company has flouted all the directives of the EPA but the EPA and other relevant public agencies are silent on the issue despite several complaints.'

According to him, 'The dust from the blast is unbearable and the mine waste is dumped right in the community. The cracking and breaking make sleeping an impossibility. The whole community is suffering from serious respiratory and skin diseases which medical experts have diagnosed as the consequences of the brutal mining activity.

He called for the resettlement of the town with all modern socio economic amenities and called on President Akufo-Addo to protect the people of Anwie from the brutal hands of Adamus Resource Limited.

The Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI) is a non-profit, non- partisan and a pro freedom think tank based in Tema.
