Goldfields provides a number devt projects for Tarkwa

Tarkwa, (W/R) April 22, GNA- Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL) on Thursday, handed over 12 community development projects it sponsored at the cost of 2.5 billion cedis, for a number of communities in its operational areas in Tarkwa.

The projects comprised the provision of 16 hand-dug wells fitted with pumps for Abekoase, Tebe and Huniso farming communities, education and sanitation projects.

Ms Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister who inaugurated the projects commended GFGL for living up to its social responsibility to the communities.

"Nananom (chiefs) and people of these communities, my appeal is for you to take good care of the structures which have been provided by the company for the next generation to also benefit from. Lack of maintenance which has gain roots in us should be a thing of the past," the Deputy Minister said.

She urged parents to ensure the enrolment and retention of their children in school.

Ms Horner-Sam appealed to the youth to maintain law and order in the community and also report people with questionable lifestyles to the police.

Mrs Kafui Fiakpornoo, Regional Director of Education commended GFGL for responding to an appeal made by the Ghana Education Service to provide staff quarters for the Samahuu School complex.

She appealed to the company to provide the School with an Early Childhood Development Centre, to complete the Basic education structures for the community.

Mr Johan L Botha, General Manager of the Company pledged continuous assistance to the area, saying the GFGL was carrying out sustainable agricultural development project to boost youth employment. Nana Tsen, Chief of Samanhuu thanked the company for the provision of the projects.

The Wassa West District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel K Ayensu said the District Assembly was reshaping some feeder roads.
