Local Government Minister tours GUMPP projects in Ho

Ho, March 21, GNA - Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, has paid a working visit to three project sites under the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Programme (GUMPP).

The projects are the Ho Central Market, the Sokode Abattoir and an engineered landfill site at Akroful, all at various stages of completion.

Mr. Cornelius Fuga, Ho Municipal Planning Officer in charge of the projects, said the Ho Central Market project comprised 231 stores, warehouse facilities and ten market sheds at a total cost of GH¢14,462,690 and was about 95 per cent complete.

He said the engineered landfill site and the abattoir were completed at GH¢7,897,302.00 and GH¢4,358,520.00 respectively.

Hajia Mahama said she was impressed with the projects and was hopeful that the facilities would generate enough revenue for their maintenance.

Madam Amelie July, the Resident Manager, Agence Française de Dévelopement (AFD), the Institution funding the 28 million Ghana cedis projects, expressed the hope that the facilities would improve the standard of living in the regional capital.

Dr Archibald Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, expressed gratitude to AFD for the investment assistance but said the Region was not happy with delays in executing the projects.

He said he would ensure that work was completed in April and management system put in place to ensure efficient use of the facilities.
