First Lady commiserates with families of Kintampo tragedy

Accra, March 20, GNA - The First Lady Mrs Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo has empathised with the bereaved families and the wounded in the Kintampo rainstorm tragedy.

The tragedy which, occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Kintampo Waterfalls in the Brong- Ahafo Region has so far claimed 20 lives involving students of Wenchi Methodist Senior High School and the University of Energy and Natural Resources who were there for excursion and research purposes.

The incident happened at the waterfalls following a downpour which hit the Municipality over the weekend.

'The news of the tragedy at Kintampo has stunned the whole country. I am deeply sorry for your loss. There are no words I can offer that will make this any easier', Mrs Akufo-Addo said in a message issued on Monday in Accra.

'I hope you find some comfort in knowing that the whole of Ghana shares your pain,' the First Lady told parents, family members and friends of the victims of the incident.

'I pray that God will comfort and strengthen you during this difficult time.

These were all beautiful young souls and we will always remember them as such", she noted.

Mrs Akufo-Addo said: 'I also pray for a speedy recovery for all the injured and pray they return home to their loved ones soon.

I pray that no other family would have to go through this ever again.

May the Almighty God watch over you all.'
