Govt to establish technical institutes in all districts

Daboase (W/R) April 21,GNA- Mr Joseph Boahene Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, on Wednesday announced plans by the Government to construct technical and vocational institutes in all districts. The Regional Minister, who was speaking at a People's Assembly at Daboase in the Mpohor Wassa East District, said Government would also bear the cost of apprenticeship of the students as part of the national human resource development programme.

He said the private sector was the engine of growth of the economy because many state institutions were not performing creditably. Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister of Interior and Member of Parliament for Sekondi, said every District Police Station would be provided with a vehicle.

He said a new Chieftaincy Bill was in the offing to streamline the chieftaincy institution and rid it of disputes.

Papa Owusu-Ankomah said security reports indicated that there were conflicts in the Region almost every week.

He spoke of the high cost of maintaining security personnel in conflict areas, which he said this did not augur well for the development of the region.

Mr Edward Tawiah Amprofi, District Chief Executive said only 20 million cedis had been collected as premium from subscribers for the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.

He said many deaths in the District were premature because people did not have money to seek medical care, hence the need for the people to embrace the scheme.
