Tarkwa (W/R), March 9, GNA - A 30 year-old well digger, Issaka Ibrahim, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a six year-old pupil in a carpentry shop.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, but at the end of trial he was found guilty.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edward Paddy, told the Court earlier that the victim lived with her mother at Bogoso in the same vicinity with the convict.

He said on March 9, 2015, the victim complained of abdominal pains and the complainant demanded to know what the problem was.

The victim informed her mother that on March 8, around 10:00am, while she was playing with her friends around a sawmill closer to their house, Ibrahim approached them, and sent her to buy him GH¢ 1.00 worth of bread.

The victim said when she returned with the bread, the convict lured her into a carpentry shop around a sawmill machine and sexually assaulted her on the ground.

He said after the act, Ibrahim warned the victim not to tell anyone about the incident else she would die, but the victim said she mastered courage and narrated her ordeal to her mother because of the unbearable pain she was going through.

The Prosecution said the complainant made a report to the police and a medical form was issued to the victim to seek medical attention.

Inspector Paddy said when the victim was examined by a medical personnel at the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital, it was revealed that she had been defiled.

He said on March 12, the victim identified Ibrahim to the complainant as the one who defiled her and was apprehended and handed over to the police.
