He is said to have held the lady's face in the pepper for more than 10 minutes while he squeezed her neck amidst abusive words.

Social media has been awash with outrage with sections of Ghanaians calling for a boycott of the restaurant.

Human right activists are also collecting signatories for an online petition calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to clamp down on foreign nationals who abuse Ghanaian employees.

Mr Chaaban was arrested by the Accra Police on March 4 and granted police inquiry bail pending further investigations.

The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Afia Tenge, confirmed that the police received the complaint from the victim on February 28, 2017, and immediately arrested the assailant.

She said the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Nana Osaberima Oware Asare Pinkrong III, had since directed the Tesano District Police Command to parade the suspect before the command on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

Otiko Djaba has entreated Ghanaians to exercise moderation in their bid to seek justice for Ms Evelyn, lauding them for their concern.

"Ghanaians should be rest assured that necessary measures are being put in place to address" the issue, she said.
