MAR 6, 2017 LISTEN

On the eve of our 60th birthday as a nation, I just sent out a simple question out to all my contacts that were active. Most of the responses were fascinating. Were there still citizens who were proud of this nation? Take a read:

Angelina: The freedom and pure culture.
Blinko: It is different to be a Ghanaian and also a proud Ghanaian.

Ebo: The fact that we are blessed with plenty natural resources.

Anonymous: Because I’m a citizen, I don’t have a choice.

Mavis: I am because self-identity is important to me and as long as I know where I am from, even if it has bad government I still take it with pride. Deluded never I know exactly what I have got. In my eyes, it is not worse than any other country. We should be happy we know our country is corrupt to the core which means we have the opportunity to solve it. All countries are corrupt some are just not transparent about it as the African countries and call corruption lobbying.

Meffy: Our food, rich Ghanaian food.
Kwame: Our generosity, hospitality. We be cool people. Peaceful.

Ratty: Peace in the nation.
Benjamin: Me getting married to a Ghanaian woman makes me proud.

Vida: My local name makes me a proud Ghanaian.

Abeiku: Am sorry, there is nothing to be proud of as a Ghanaian now. Honestly, everything is a mess.

Kelvin: We are not the only country in a mess. I know Ghana and I love it.

Adepa: Well am proud because am born, pampered and raised by sweet Ghanaian parents.

Isaz: Because I have a long dick. Relative to these others, am a man.

Nii: The fact that we have no iota of readiness to plunge the nation into chaos no matter how small but we are ready to fool around any day. #ProudGhanaian

Abankwah: People in several occasions described Ghanaians as cowards and afraid of blood, I pity those assertions. Ghanaians are rather reasonable and takes time to brood over issues, naturally majority of Ghanaians are consequentialists. We take time to assess the possible long term effect should we compromise on our peace. I’m a proud Ghanaian.

Babaginda: Apart from the fact that Ghana is a peaceful and harmonious country with different cultures, it’s amazing and serene environment has also attracted people from all walks of life. I have come to believe that Ghana is a peaceful, amazing and wonderful place to be. I’m very proud to be a Ghanaian.

Sarah: The peace and my ability to say we have been pressed several times but despite our flaws we still come back great.

Gifty: The peace in the country.
Eric: In fact, everything makes me proud to be a Ghanaian even the negatives.

Taina: The fact there is peace here and I get to enjoy my fufu and waakye, I am proud to be a Ghanaian.

Daniel: Able to do what I want freely and not thinking of any war.

Edem: Peaceful nation.
Ayanu: Seeing the vision of our forefathers and making it happen.

Boadi: Am never proud to be a Ghanaian.
Africa: I’m not a proud Ghanaian.
Sammy: it is our culture.
Mike: The food. Lol
Nabare: What is there to be proud about Ghana? Am only glad to be alive and I thank God. Wherever I find myself is relatively useless.

For those who want to know why am also a proud Ghanaian, this answer from Araba: “That you (referring to me) are one too”, made it even more palpable. I am proud because of people like you all and that we all are Ghanaians! No tribal word came up, nothing, just Ghanaians!

God bless Ghana.
