Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), April 17, GNA - The Dormaa District Office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has taken delivery of a new 7,000 litre capacity fire tender to boost its bush and domestic fire fighting. The new tender, replaces an old one, which gave the office constant technical problems and failed to respond to several fire emergencies. Presenting the keys, the Acting Dormaa District Chief Executive, Nana Emmanuel Duku, re-assured Ghanaians that the government was determined to tackle the country's problems systematically and they need to keep faith and exercise patience to enable the government to deliver on its campaign promises.

He called for support and co-operation for the government's second phase of Positive Change, which focuses on human resource enhancement, private sector development and growth in agriculture. Nana Duku appealed to followers of the various political parties in the district to forget about their differences and work together towards a common destiny.

He expressed the hope that the new fire tender would uplift the performance of the fire personnel and reduce the incidence of bush and domestic fires in the district.

Mr. Emmanuel Sarfo, District Fire Officer, commended the government for responding to their appeal for a new tender and assured the district that the equipment would be put to good use. Mr. Sarfo appealed to Ghanaians to refrain from abusing the national fire service's emergency telephone number, which he said some people used to raise false alarms.

He urged all and sundry to play active role in averting fires, especially during the harmattan season to reduce the level of threat posed to people's lives and properties. 17 April 05
