Accra, March 1, GNA - Archbishop Dr George Slezer Ofori-Atta, Presiding Archbishop of the Council of World Bishops and the International Council for Clergy, has condemned the misinformation surrounding the death of Bishop Lawrence Agyepong, Founder of Zion Home Chapel International.

Bishop Agyepong died at the 37 Military Hospital, on February 15, where he was admitted at the Emergency Ward where he was being treated for numbness.

Archbishop Ofori-Atta slammed news alleging that the source of his power in the service of the Lord was satanic.

'I hereby do state categorically that all such things trending on the social media and whatsapp about him are lies and are in the fashion of the spirit of anti-Christ.

'Some of these people perpetrating these falsehoods are pastors and are spewing out lies in order to defame and make his work of no effect. It is populism, targeted at wining over his flock whilst they project themselves to that effect. Some even claim to have had an intimate conversation with him whilst alive and told them about the source of his power. Blatant lies that is what it is.

'People of God, please dismiss these unfounded allegations that are making rounds about the late Bishop Lawrence Agyapong. They are mere fabrications, concoctions, fictitious and blatant lies,' he said in a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

It said it was disheartening to hear Pastors blatantly lying that he was in a counselling session when he shouted and started confessing about the source of his power.

'The time when his two pastors and wife took him into his car at dawn, no Church member had as yet come to the Church premises for counselling; hence, he was not at any counselling session when this unfortunate incident happened.

'In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I beseech all and sundry to take note of this record and so desist from concocting damaging stories about the demised Bishop. I hope this brings finality to all the speculations, lies and lays the matter to rest as we all acknowledge the truth and live with it.'

Until his death Bishop Agyapong worked very hard and tirelessly to advance the course of the Church, erecting a beautiful edifice as a church building, church office and a television station named Zion TV on the spectrum of First Digital Television.

He was ordained in 2003 by the Council and consecrated an Apostle in 2009 and Bishop in 2015.

Prior to the commencement of Zion Home Chapel International, he was with Apostle Hackman Quaye from 1998 to 1999 and 'Jesus Abrantie' in 2000 as a singer.
