Tamale, April 16, GNA - A rainstorm that hit the Tamale Metropolis on Wednesday caused extensive damage to the structures of the International Grammar Academy Complex, a private school at Zogbeli, in Tamale.

Also destroyed by the rainstorm were furniture, books and other reading materials.

As a result, the 102 pupils are now temporary housed at the Tamale Girls International Senior Secondary School, where the students are on vacation.

Conducting the Ghana News Agency (GNA) round the school, the head teacher, Mr Sakara Salia said repair on the damage to the school was beyond the finances of the proprietors.

He appealed to public-spirited individuals and benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the school. Mr Salia also appealed to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly for assistance to rehabilitate the structures in order not to disturb the school's academic calendar.

Mr Albert Babachiwe Atutiga, Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Schools Association, who has released some classrooms for the temporary accommodation of the pupils, said he was touched by the plight of the children.
