Pupils at Demonstration Primary and Junior High School near Drobo-East in the Jaman South-District in the Brong-Ahafo have been studying in an abandoned toilet building for the past seven months for lack of enough classrooms.

Hon. Henry Afful, the Assemblyman for the area in an interview with Sunyani based radio Metro 90.5FM said the school do not have enough classrooms that’s why they have been forced to study there.

According to the Assemblyman, they have written petitions to the immediate past District Chief Executive for Jaman South, Hon Tamea Dora but she and her office did not do anything about it.

The headmaster of Demonstration Primary and JHS, Mr. Emmanuel Kyereh, narrating the incident said the toilet facility was built in the 1960’s for Drobo Senior High School and is now been used as classrooms for the pupils to ease congestion.

“The lack of enough classroom space has forced us to conduct lessons at the abandoned toilet. This learning environment is partly responsible for the poor performance of the pupils” he added.

Mr.Emmanuel Kyereh added that the situation is affecting teaching and learning as pupils have to battle with cockroaches and other insects during classes hours.

He, therefore called on the government to come to their aid and has urged parents,NGOs and other stakeholders to mobilize funds to support the school.
