MANAGEMENT of IBISTEK, a Ghanaian owned company is considering Sino Hydro, a Marine consultancy and Justmoh Construction Company Limited (JCCL), a local construction firm to execute the second phase of the Takoradi Container Terminal (TACOTEL) project, estimated to cost US$350 million.

The first phase of the project, covering a land space of 77,000 meters reserved for containers cart to the place is expected to receive its first container consignment from the Takoradi Port next month is 95% complete.

IBISTEK entered into a concession agreement with Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to build the container terminal in order to create space for the Port expansion project to begin.

By carting all containers to the project site, there would be space for the second phase of the Port expansion project to commence.

The second phase of the project, which is in two components; on dock work activities, i.e. dredging of the Port, on one hand and the construction of the road from the Paa Grant Roundabout to the Takoradi Port, as well as fixing of the rail line from the Port to the container terminal site, is expected to start in June.

Though IBISTEK has not formally signed an agreement with Sino Hydro and Justmoh Construction, everything points to the fact that the two entities are being highly considered for the execution of the phase two of the project.

Officials of Sino Hydro, who would undertake the dredging exercise, last Thursday toured the Port to familiarize themselves with the extent of work to be carried out.

The Sino Hydro officials, led by Lawyer Kwame Gyan, Owusu Koranteng and other key management members conducted the IBISTEK representatives on the tour.

Mr. Kwame Adjei, representing Hag Consult, consultant for the project told reporters that IBISTEK was in the process of getting Sino Hydro as partners of the project.

Later IBISTEK management and Sino Hydro officials toured the facilities sites of Justmoh Construction to access the latter's readiness to supply all the necessary materials that may be needed for the dredging exercise.

Speaking in an interview with reporters, Mr. Justice Amoh, Managing Director for Justmoh Construction told reporters that though his company had not been officially engaged for the second phase of the project, he was ready to supply all the necessary materials in the likely event that he would be engaged.

He said having done all the civil works for the first phase of the project, he was sure his company would be engaged for the second phase of the same project.

When formally engaged, and an agreement signed to that effect, Justmoh Construction would be in charge of the construction of the road linking the Paa Grant Roundabout to the Port, as well as supply boulders, quarry and other materials for the project.
