Accra - 24 Feb 2017: Last weekend, over 500 young people gathered for BRAVEHEART, the knowledge sharing clinic organised by Dream Believe Achieve (DBA) Network, which took place at the premises of Perez Chapel Int. Dzorwulu in Accra. Braveheart is one of DBA’s flagship projects to groom the youth for responsible leadership through strategic mentorship. The programme, which attracted mostly teenagers lasted between 8am and 3pm.

The event also brought together close to 50 young professionals from different organisations, who volunteered time and other resources to support the programme. The volunteers included employees from Vodafone Ghana, GNPC, Accra Brewery Limited, IDEG, CropMac, AGRA, Promasidor Ghana Ltd, Teledata ICT, JICA, USAID, University of Ghana, Roche, etc. as well as Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Accra-Legon.

The day provided the platform for learning, fun and networking. The mentors (volunteer professionals) engaged and interacted with the kids, who came from different schools and backgrounds, on various social topics such as responsible citizenship, effects of underage drinking, personal grooming, health and fitness, peer pressure, cyber safety, cultivating the habit of saving, effective time management, communicating with confidence etc.

Founder of DBA Ms. Brooke Nuwati says, “I’m very happy with the overwhelming growth of the Braveheart initiative. The ripple effect we see and the positive feedback we continue to receive from participants is a great motivation for us to keep going. Thanks to the Vodafone Ghana Foundation and other donors, this is the third time the annual programme is being held at Perez Chapel alone, and each year is an improvement over the previous year. I’m very thankful to our volunteers who showed up in their numbers. I’m amazed at the way young people respond to the call to give back to society. The zeal and readiness to do so is amazing and it tells me there’s hope for this country. The youth must be fully involved in the development of Ghana and we need to create more platforms to engage them meaningfully. I believe DBA is providing an avenue to absorb the youth in this regard”

Ms Brigid Nana Esi Dzadze, one of the lead coordinators of DBA, adds “The platform offered by DBA is a unique one. We encourage our mentors and volunteers to use practical experiences to explain what they teach. Also, our model is sustainable, as we do not close the chapter once the event is over. We keep the relationship going and the mentors are constantly in touch with the young people that we engage, ensuring that they continue to receive support and mentorship even long after the BRAVEHEART programme. DBA believes real change begins in the mind and that is why we are committed to feeding the minds of young people.”

The day was also packed with lots of fun and entertainment activities such as face painting, dancing competition, trampoline, bouncing castle, choreography etc. There were also lots of giveaways from Vodafone Ghana Foundation, major sponsors of the event.

Dream Believe Achieve (DBA) is a network of professionals who are dedicated to grooming, mentoring and preparing young persons for responsible leadership. The objective of DBA is to inspire young people by sharing experiences, nurturing and building their confidence.
