Petition To MOEGESEducation Committee In Parliament
25.02.2017 LISTEN

I wish to petition the above educational sector to set up a committee to do a thorough investigation in St Theresa College of Education in Hohoe Municipality in Volta Region.

This becomes necessary due to frequent billing of students anytime they went on short vacation especially the newly admitted students.

Even though, the college is a Catholic mission established it is expected that things must work according to plan.

For example, the recent admissions made prior to November -December, 2016 were asked to pay GHC2,000 excluding certain things which every nook and cranny would have expected to be provided by the school. The students were asked to bring their own student mattress, pillow, etc. It is interested to know that just after the Xmas break they were asked to bring GHC500 as examination fee which the parents knew that everything was captured in the previous amount levied and paid.

As if that is not enough, just after the examination in February, 2017 and then short vacation, the students are asked to bring an amount of GHC1,200 for some previous uncharged expenses.

This becomes worrisome to parents as one academic year has not yet ended.

It was perceived that the corruption that becomes canker the governments sort to preventing is rearing it's ugly head in some parts of our educational system and St.Theresa College of Education might be one.

If these practices are not checked and heads roll, the newly trained teachers could sort to recoup what they extorted from them in school unjustifiably through their respective posting areas hence the vicious circle of corruption will continue unabated.

The payment should be made across board once in a year or installment of each academic semester to bring clarity to bear.

It's my hope that urgent steps should be taken to nip these practices in the bud.

Thank you for the maximum cooperation.
