Tourism students asked to make money from the industry

Accra April 14, GNA - Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City, on Thursday advised students studying tourism to be innovative to make money from the industry. He said tourism was a private sector activity and a lot of money could be made from it if it was undertaken in a professional manner. The Minister was interacting with the Association of Tourism Students from the University of Cape Coast about the job opportunities in the industry.

"Tourism is a serious business and there is money to be made from the industry if you do tourism well," he said.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey urged the students to be willing to work at tourist sites and as professional tour guides. He said most often students preferred working in the sector Ministry than as tour guides.

The Minister said it was high time hospitality industries employed professionals.

Mr Prince Agortey, Member of the Association requested the Ministry to ensure that tourism students render their national service at places related to the industry.

The Association announced its decision to make the Minister their Chief Patron to ensure collaboration between the Ministry and members.
