The Asamang Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA), under the Ashanti Central Ghana Conference (ACGC), has been inaugurated as an independent district.

The newest district under the ACGC, which was carved out of old EffiduaseDistrict, has about four organised churches and two company churches, with about 1,200 congregation.

Delivering the sermon at the event, Pastor AkwasiBoateng, President of ASCG, lamented on chronic bribery and corruption in the Ghanaian society, especially among civil servants, and urged them to shy away from these acts.

According to him, if civil servants put a stop to corruption, politicians will be discouraged from indulging in the practice.

Pastor AkwasiBoateng, however, expressed hope in the Akufo-Addo government, and implored Ghanaians to pray for the President, because he is definitely going to transform Ghana, and urged Ghanaians to exercise patience while Nana Akufo-Addo's government took steps to transform Ghana.

On his part, Pastor Paul OpokuBoateng, District Pastor of the Asamang SDA Church, bemoaned the falling quality of Christianity in Christendom, stressing the paradox that 'everybody goes to church, yet sin is carrying us away.'

Quoting 1John 2:6 from the Bible, Pastor Boateng charged Christians to follow Christ genuinely, and desist from acts of hypocrisy.

In his inaugural address, he revealed that in 1966, during the reign of Pastor S. K. Agyemang, the status of a district was first conferred on Asamang, when areas such as Asokore, Juaben, Dadease, Ahensan, Oguaa were all part of the district.

He continued:” In 1984, the number of churches and company churches had increased to 44 at the same time Asamang S.D.A hospital was established. as a result of ownership of the hospital, Asamang lost the status of a district during the era of district Pastor N.K Gyimah.”

Attributing their inauguration to God, he quoted 1 Samuel 7:12, which was the theme of the inaugural event, “Ebenezer, thus far the lord has helped us” as a reminder of the great things the Lord has done for the church.

The Pastor disclosed, however, that in March, 2014, the Asamang SDA District was recreated, comprising Central, Bethel, MampongAkrofonso, All Nations, Nsutem and Adagya.

He hailed all and sundry for their contributions in helping him steer the affairs of the church in numerous ways.

He mentioned elders OduroAsenso, Matthew Obeng and Ebenezer Acheampong as people who helped in contributing to the growth of the church into a district.

Pastor OpokuBoateng also mentioned Mr. Oscar AbabioFrimpong and Elder Alex OseiBonsu as district secretaries, with Madam Beatrice Takyiwaa as District Treasurer.
