Some youth in Tamale in the Northern Region suspected to be NPP members have locked up the office of the Tamale Teaching Hospital Chief Executive Officer.
The youth stormed the office of the CEO at the hospital but met his absence then ordered the secretary to pack her belongings and leave the office with immediate effect.
The office was then locked-up by the youth secretary then he gave a message to nurses to tell the CEO not to step his foot at the hospital premises again.
It will be recalled that a Group calling itself Northern Young Patriots called for the immediate exit of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TTH, Dr. Prosper Akambong.
The group also gave a week's ultimatum to the CEO of the hospital to step down; failure to do so, an otherwise action shall be taken.
They alleged that management of the hospital had been very poor, basic drugs and medical consumables needed for the day to day running of the facility were seriously lacking indicating that patients were asked to purchase very basic items such as hand gloves, syringes and all other items needed for their medical care, which were supposed to be catered for by the NHIS.
The secretary of the youth group Idris Abdul Hack told DAILY GUIDE that the locking up of the office had nothing to do with politics but was rather for the interest of the Northern Region in general.
According to him, they heard of a demonstration planned by another youth group tomorrow and for the interest of patients at the hospital they decided to rather lock up the office so that the youth could suspend their demonstration.
“They wanted to demonstrate because of the CEO and so if he is not there am sure they would suspend their demonstration.”
Idris Abdul Hack explained that the demonstration at the hospital could cause fear and panic among patients which could result in unfortunate incidents so they rather want to prevent that from happening.
He however stated that the office would be locked up till the Northern Regional minister comes to office for the other group to present their petition to him to enable him take over the issues.
The secretary therefore advised the CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital not to go back to the office since anything could happen to him because the group really means business.
Efforts to reach management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital proved futile.
