Investigations conducted by DAILY GUIDE have revealed that staff of the Central Gonja District Assembly at Buipe in the Northern Region abandoned their posts on Friday.

The various offices of the assembly were closed except that of the head of the Works Department.

When DAILY GUIDE went round the assembly building most offices had their lights and air conditioners on but the staffs were not at posts.

When the paper questioned a worker at the Works Department as to why the assembly was without the usual staffs, he said they had gone to pray and that they would be back.

It was learned that the Friday prayers often take not more than 30 minutes; but for almost two hours no worker had come back to work.

There was deep concern expressed about the practice whereby workers of the assemblies in the Northern Region reportedly leave their offices on Fridays for prayers and do not return to work.

“The absence of a district chief executive could be the cause of indiscipline at the assembly level……,” a concerned resident of the area guessed.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Highway Authority has announced the closure of the Buipe bridge from Friday, February 17th to Wednesday, 8th March, 2017, to enable emergency repair works to be carried out on it.

It has also indicated that only vehicles weighing up to 20 tonnes would be allowed to cross the bridge between the hours of 6am and 2pm each day during the period of the repair works.
